Congratulations to the following Internal Medicine faculty, residents and fellows for your recent awards or publications:

Ruth Montgomery, PhD, associate professor of Medicine, Rheumatology; associate dean of Scientific Affairs, was recently elected for a four-year term as Councilor in the Society of Leukocyte Biology.

Ronald Vender, MD, professor of Medicine, Digestive Diseases; associate dean for Clinical Affairs, was named Master of the American College of Gastroenterology.

Mei-Ling Yang, PhD, associate research scientist, Rheumatology, was selected as a recipient of The American Association of Immunologists Travel Grant (Amsterdam) for the fifth European Congress of Immunology.

Jake Quinton, MD, resident YPC PGY-3, won the 2018 Johns Hopkins Research Award for his work in “Evaluation of Mortality Risk Indexes for Use in the Veterans Healthcare Administration.” Dr. Quinton is one of six residents nationwide being honored at a ceremony at Johns Hopkins at which he will present his research.

Karl Insogna, MD, professor of Medicine, Endocrinology; director, Yale Bone Center, was published in the September 2018 New England Journal of Medicine for his paper on “Primary Hyperparathyroidism.”

Jennifer Batisti, MD, assistant professor of Medicine, Digestive Diseases, was published in the August 2018 Clinical Liver Disease for her work on “Geographic Areas of Liver Distribution in the United States Should Not Be Redesigned According to the 2016 Eight-District Organ Procurement and Transplantation Network Proposal.”

Rosa Xicola, PhD, assistant professor of Medicine, Digestive Diseases, was published in the September 2018 Carcinogenesis for her research on “Lack of APC Somatic Mutation is Associated with Early-onset Colorectal Cancer in African Americans.”

Henry Binder, MD, professor of Medicine, Digestive Diseases, was published in Harrison’s Principles of Internal Medicine (McGraw Hill) for his work in “Disorders of Absorption.”

Mei-Ling Yang, PhD, associate research scientist, Rheumatology; Hester Doyle, PhD, research scientist, Rheumatology; Mark Mamula, PhD, professor of Medicine, are being published in an upcoming edition of Antioxidants & Redox Signaling for her work in “Oxidative Modifications in Tissue Pathology and Autoimmune Disease.”

Abhijeet Danve, MD, assistant professor of Clinical Medicine, was published in the July 2018 Current Opinion of Rheumatology for his work in “Complementary Medicine for Axial Spondyloarthritis: Is there any Scientific Evidence.”

Mensah Kofi, Rheumatology fellow; Malek Pascha, MD, visiting student; and Abhijeet Danve, MD, assistant professor of Clinical Medicine; co-authored a paper entitled, “Granulomatosis with Polyangiitis in a Young Adult with Down Syndrome: Therapeutic Challenges and Clues to Immunopathogenesis” that was published in the April 2018 Journal of Clinical Rheumatology.

Kathleen Martin, PhD, associate professor of Medicine, Cardiology, authored an article entitled, “LM07 is a Negative Feedback Regulator of TGFb Signaling and Fibrosis” which will be published in an upcoming issue of Circulation.

Antonio Giaimo, MD, instructor, General Internal Medicine, was selected as an Hypertension Early Career Oral Award Finalist at the American Heart Association’s Council of Hypertension Conference in Chicago, Ill. for his project “Hypertensive Urgency: An Emergency Department Pipeline to Primary Care Pilot Study.”
