Gentile appointed Deputy Chair for Finance & Administration of Yale Department of Psychiatry

October 04, 2017

The following was written by John H. Krystal, MD, Chair of the Yale Department of Psychiatry, regarding the appointment of Steven A. Gentile to be Deputy Chair for Finance & Administration of the Yale Department of Psychiatry.

I am thrilled to announce that Steven A. Gentile will be the new Deputy Chair for Finance & Administration of the Department of Psychiatry. He began this role on October 1.

Steve comes to Psychiatry with over 25 years of finance and administration experience at Yale in academic medicine. Prior to joining Psychiatry, Steve served as the Vice Chair of Finance & Administration for Cardiovascular Medicine/Department of Internal Medicine and as the Director of Finance & Administration for the Department of Laboratory Medicine. In this combined role, he managed an overall operating budget of $103 million with over 550 employees where he developed and implemented a number of strategic outreach endeavors to further both departments’ clinical, research, and education missions.

From 2004 to 2011, Steve served as the Clinical Administrator for both the Department of Neurosurgery and the Department of Orthopaedics and Rehabilitative Medicine. He served as Executive Director of the Yale Cardiology Network from 1998 to 2004. Prior to this, he was an Associate Administrator in Cardiovascular Medicine/Department of Internal Medicine and a Financial Analyst in the Department of Surgery.

Steve received his Bachelor of Science in Molecular and Cell Biology from the University of Connecticut and a Master of Business Administration in Health Care Management from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute.

Steve will be replacing Brian Spector in this role. Brian announced his intention to move to a position outside of Yale earlier this year. The overlap between Steve and Brian will insure a smooth administrative transition. We thank Brian for his service and wish him all the best!
