The Yale Animal Resources Center (YARC) is the University's centralized service provider for animal researchers. Services include housing and husbandry, veterinary services and diagnostic services, for mammals, fish, amphibians and birds.

Notice

To reduce and control traffic in our animal facilities and address social distancing concerns, all individuals must sign up for an animal/procedure room time slot prior to entering the animal facility. Use this link to access our Facility Sign Up calendar (called YARC Lab Reservations). A face mask or covering is required in all animal facilities.

Getting Started

Yale investigators must obtain approval from the Institutional Animal Care and Use Committee (IACUC) before ordering or using vertebrate animals. Vertebrates must be housed and husbanded by YARC unless alternative care has been approved by the IACUC.

Essential steps for new users

  • Go to IACUC to request approval to order and use animals either by submitting an Application to Use Animals in Research, Teaching or Testing or submitting a Personnel Qualifications form adding you to an approved protocol.
  • Go to Training for mandatory training on animal use and for medical clearance.
  • Email IACUC (iacuc@yale.edu) to request security clearance.
  • Select a species
  • Go to Orders, Exports and Fees to order animals.

For more information, please visit Frequently asked questions (FAQs) or visit the IACUC Getting Started page.

For more information about the care and use of species not specifically listed, contact vets@yale.edu.
