Research

Key to our mission is innovative research in three areas of expertise at Yale:

  1. Vascular cell signal transduction leading to inflammation, angiogenesis and vascular remodeling;
  2. Design and implementation of cell based, engineered blood vessels and tissues; and
  3. Genetic and translational insights into vascular diseases.
One of the major interests in VBT is to understand the mechanisms for vascular development and remodeling. Image shown above is a normal mouse embryo at embryonic day 13.5 linked with placenta and yolk sac by blood vessels (red). Image on the right is a mutant mouse embryo with delayed vascular development. Corresponding mouse retina blood vessels on postnatal day 4 are shown on the top. Image courtesy of Wang Min, PhD.
