Overview
Harris E. Foster, Jr., MD, an expert in caring for patients with urological diseases, treats general urological conditions and has deep knowledge of voiding dysfunction, which occurs when the bladder muscle and urethra have poor coordination. He also sees patients with neurogenic bladder, which can develop with a brain, spinal cord or nerve condition.
Dr. Foster says that while many urological conditions do not affect duration of life, they can in many instances have significant, if not devastating, effects on quality of life. He works with each patient to come up with the best treatment, which he says may not always be surgery.
A professor of urology at the Yale School of Medicine, Dr. Foster focuses his clinical research on pharmacologic and phytotherapeutic treatments of benign prostate hyperplasia, also known as enlarged prostate. He has also served as director of a national interstitial cystitis research network. Connecticut Magazine has included Dr. Harris in its annual list of the Top Doctors in the state.
