Biography

Dr. Santiago Callegari is a medical doctor (MD) from Bogotá, Colombia. He graduated with exemplary honors, securing the top position in his class at the prestigious Universidad de los Andes in 2022, recognized as the leading university in the country. Throughout his career, Dr. Callegari has actively participated in numerous significant endeavors encompassing basic research, clinical investigations, and educational initiatives. In the early stages of his profession, he dedicated his efforts to groundbreaking research involving the utilization of Zebrafish as a high-output screening platform for modeling human diseases. This endeavor aimed to facilitate therapeutic screening and personalized medicine, employing cutting-edge microscopy and molecular techniques. Later on, Dr. Callegari transitioned to clinical research projects, focusing on the validation of scores for calculating cardiovascular risk and further enhancing the comprehension of cardiovascular diseases within the Colombian population. During his final year of medical school and subsequent to his graduation, he assumed the position of a Postdoctoral Research Fellow at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center - Harvard Medical School. There, he embarked on an ongoing pursuit to deepen his understanding of cardiovascular diseases and their modeling, employing state-of-the-art mass spectrometry techniques while exploring the pathophysiology of cardiovascular risk factors such as Sarcopenia. Presently, Dr. Callegari serves as a postdoctoral research fellow at the VAMOS Lab, under the mentorship of Dr. Kim Smolderen and Dr. Carlos Mena-Hurtado, in addition to his involvement at the Yale Translational Research Imaging Center (Y-TRIC) under the guidance of Dr. Albert Sinusas.
