ACLP Best Practice Guidance: Evaluation and Treatment of Depression in Solid Organ Transplant Recipients

April 24, 2023

Paula Zimbrean, MD, associate professor of psychiatry, is first author of a paper published in Journal of the Academy of Consultation-Liaison Psychiatry that focuses on identification and management of depressive disorder in organ transplant recipients.

It is the first guidance document approved by the Academy of Consultation Liaison Psychiatry (ACLP).

It resulted from a collaboration of the ACLP Transplant Psychiatry Special Interest Group, which Zimbrean currently chairs, and the ACLP Guidelines and Evidence Based Medicine Subcommittee.

Zimbrean and colleagues began working on the document three years ago. The group completed a systematic literature review, formulated practice statements, conducted an expert survey and proposed a clinical care algorithm for screening and addressing depressive disorder in organ transplant recipient.

The process had several aims: to improve clinical care, to support consultation-liaison psychiatrists in their quest for resources to implement good clinical care, and to streamline the process for best clinical practice document in consultation liaison psychiatry.
