Kavli Postdoc Series
"The Chalk Talk 2025"
The Kavli Institute for Neuroscience at Yale is delighted to invite Yale neuroscience postdocs, regardless of their department affiliation, to attend a special event for postdocs focused on the chalk talk. The chalk talk is an important part of the interview process for faculty positions at many US institutions. The event will be on Thursday, October 9th, 2025, in room 180 of 100 College St, from 1 to 6 pm.
Draft agenda:
1 pm: Do's and don'ts of giving a chalk talk - by Sreeganga Chandra, PhD
1:30 pm: Chalk talk demo – by Trevor Sorrells, PhD
2:30 pm: Mock chalk talks and practice - by senior postdocs
5:05 pm: Debrief
5:30 pm: Networking hour
All Yale postdocs in the neurosciences are invited to register to attend. When registering, you can opt in to present a mock chalk talk: ~30 mins in front of a white board, explaining your research plans to an audience of other postdocs and faculty members (faculty members will ask questions and provide feedback). These practice slots are limited - please sign up for these slots only if you are ready to present. We will try our best to accommodate all senior postdocs (currently or soon-to-be on the job market) who would like to practice their chalk talk. To sign up to present, you will need to provide a talk title and a short abstract on the registration page. If you don’t wish to present a mock chalk talk yourself, you are welcome to attend any chalk talks from your peers.
Please register by Sept. 25.
