STaR Trial: Multiple Ligament Knee Injuries

What is the purpose of this trial?

The purpose of this research is to address two questions regarding a multiple ligament knee injury (MLKI).

  • Is it best to have surgery shortly after injury or to delay surgery for MLKI?
  • Is it best to begin weight bearing and range of motion shortly after surgery or delay it for a few weeks?

The study will randomize eligible patients to determine whether they have early or delayed surgery as well as early or delayed rehabilitation. The type of surgery and rehabilitation is based on the injury itself. The study team will meet with the patient at their regularly scheduled office appointments, review medical records and ask that they fill out questionnaires electronically for 2 years after surgery.
