Biography
Dr Weiss practices both pulmonary and sleep medicine. She is medical director of the pediatric pulmonary function laboratory and oversees the pulmonary exercise testing program. She has published and lectured on exercise-induced asthma and sleep disorders in children. She has a strong interest in sleep in medical trainees.
Dr Weiss is also very involved in medical education and research. She is Vice Chair for Education in the department of Pediatrics. She presently serves on the National Academy of Distinguished Educators in Pediatrics, and the executive boards of the Council of Pediatric Subspecialties and the Vice Chairs Executive Committee of the Association of Pediatric Program Directors. She is past president/chair of the Pediatric Pulmonary Training Directors Association and the Fellowship Directors Executive Committee of the Association of Pediatric Program Directors. She is editor of the American Academy of Pediatrics PREP Pulmonology. She is on the steering committee of the Subspecialty Pediatrics Investigators Network. She is involved in a number of national studies in fellowship education, including assessment using entrustable professional activities (EPAs), scholarly activity and financial resources.

Research
Overview
Dr. Weiss research interest is in health professions education. She is currently examining the effect of a curriculum in mental and behavioral health in chronic diseases on knowledge, skills and attitudes of pediatric fellows as well as the effectiveness of a novel tool in improving faculty feedback to residents. She is working with a group of pediatric educators at the national level on a number of studies, including 1) burnout in pediatric fellowship programs, 2) validity of entrustable professional activities as an assessment tool in pediatric fellowships and in determining readiness for independent practice, and 3) factors impacting scholarship in fellowship programs.

Overview
Pnina Weiss, MD, is a pediatric pulmonologist who treats pulmonary and sleep disorders, including asthma, chronic lung disease, cough, snoring, exercise-induced shortness of breath, sleep-disordered breathing, and obstructive sleep apnea (OSA).
“It’s satisfying to see my patients improve so they can live their best lives,” Dr. Weiss says. “I work with them to make lifestyle changes and prescribe medication if they need it. Some of my patients are able to outgrow their illnesses.”
Dr. Weiss says she enjoys getting to know her patients and their families well so she can provide the best possible treatment plan.
“I tell patients and their families that I will do my best to help them achieve their goals,” she says.
Dr. Weiss is director of the Pediatric Pulmonary Function Lab at Yale New Haven Children’s Hospital, where she oversees both pulmonary and exercise testing. She is vice chair of education in the department of pediatrics.
