Overview
Amanda Zubek, MD, PhD, is a dermatologist who specializes in actinic keratosis, psoriasis, impetigo, acne, and eczema.
Dr. Zubek had her first precancerous mole surgically removed when she was just 11 years old, and she needed to have more than 20 additional atypical moles taken off over the next decade. Because these surgeries happened before today’s more advanced techniques were available, she has many scars. This experience inspired Dr. Zubek to become a dermatologist. “A strong family history of melanoma and this experience made me keenly aware of the dangers of UV radiation,” she says.
In addition to her focus on skin health, Dr. Zubek, director of the Yale Medicine Dermatology's Middlebury office, has a special interest in nail disorders. She enjoys working directly with patients to address their skin challenges and to educate them on ways to improve overall skin health. “Dermatology allows me to treat disorders that have a profound impact on patients’ quality of life, both physically and emotionally,” she says.
She teaches the next generation at the Yale School of Medicine as an assistant professor of dermatology. “I love working with residents, medical students, nursing students and physician assistants and teaching them how to manage a wide variety of challenging skin conditions,” she says.
