What is your role in the Department of Internal Medicine?
I am a fellowship coordinator and senior administrative assistant in the Section of Nephrology. I manage all things related to fellowships and offer administrative support to seven physicians.
Why did you decide to work at Yale School of Medicine?
Initially the brand name of Yale University was very attractive. And the benefits offered here are very good. I doubt if any other company could match them. My background is in human resources and administration. As an immigrant, I was on a dependent visa and started working much later in my life. This is the first job I was offered, and I took it immediately, as it had aspects of both administration and human resources.
What is the most rewarding part of your career?
I love my job, as I’m always helping indirectly in the making of excellent future specialist doctors. It’s very rewarding because I am constantly offering my assistance to physicians who save lives.
What do you love about working at Yale?
Working at Yale offers a healthy work-life balance. I have met lots of new people and made new friends. My great team of coworkers and fellowship coordinators from other sections have been helpful and supportive throughout.
What is a fun fact about you?
My name Deepa means lamp or light, as in the major Indian festival called Deepavali, which means row of lights and symbolizes the spiritual victory of light over darkness, good over evil, and knowledge over ignorance.
