Dr. Vincent Mase to Lead Cardiothoracic Surgery Residency

The Department of Surgery is pleased to announce the appointment of Dr. Vincent Mase Jr. to the position of Program Director for the Integrated Six-Year Cardiothoracic Surgery Residency (I6), effective July 1.

Dr. Mase takes over from Dr. Rita Milewski, who has led the establishment of the specialty residency for the past few years.

We are grateful for Dr. Milewski’s foundational leadership of the I6 program and look forward to this next chapter for the residency with Dr. Mase at the helm. Dr. Mase has a track record as an outstanding educator, and we look forward to his leadership.

In his new role, Dr. Mase work closely with the Associate Program Director team to provide administrative oversight of the ACGME-accredited program.

Since 2021, Dr. Mase has supported the General Surgery Residency Program as Associate Program Director for Assessment.

In addition to his faculty appointment as a skilled minimally invasive thoracic surgeon, Dr. Mase is currently a Lieutenant Colonel in the U.S. Army Reserves with over 20 years of service time, including both active duty and reserves. His military awards include a Bronze Star Medal, Meritorious Service Medal, and Combat Medical Badge.
