Clinical Care
Overview
Michael Kulon, MD, specializes in nuclear medicine, radiology, and biomedical imaging. Nuclear medicine entails using small amounts of radioactive substances to diagnose and treat diseases.
“Radiology, and specifically nuclear radiology, is an interesting combination of anatomy, physiology, pathology, chemistry, and technology,” Dr. Kulon says. “Nuclear radiology offers unique diagnostic and therapeutic procedures that facilitate patient care. I enjoy the opportunity to positively impact patients' clinical course through diagnostic tests and through therapies.”
Dr. Kulon interprets a variety nuclear medicine scans, including PET-CT scans for oncologic staging; whole body bone scans; PET-CT and SPECT-CT brain scans for seizure localization and evaluation of Alzheimer’s disease; radioactive iodine (RAI)/1-131 for thyroid cancer; ventilation/perfusion (V/Q) scans; and radioisotope renography.
His research interests include informatics, natural language processing, and machine vision.
