Dear Friends and Colleagues,

The Section of Nephrology has been busy since our last newsletter. As many of you know, Stefan Somlo, MD, C. N. H. Long Professor of Medicine (Nephrology) and professor of genetics, has decided to step down as chief of the Section of Nephrology. Dr. Somlo became section chief in 2003 and served more than 21 years in the position. Please join me in thanking him for his dedication to the section and the department.

In other news, the section’s faculty, staff, and trainees continue to advance the field of nephrology in numerous ways. In this newsletter, we highlight a randomized clinical trial evaluating the impact of a “kidney action team” on hospitalized patients with AKI, a potential new target for the treatment of PKD, and the Animal Physiology and Pathophysiology Core, among other topics. Read on to learn the most rewarding part of research associate Lonnette Diggs’s career and why three of our clinical fellows chose to come to Yale.

I hope you enjoy learning more about the innovative work taking place in our section. If you have news to share, please contact me at the email below.

Sincerely,

Shuta Ishibe, MD
Interim Section Chief, Nephrology
Professor of Medicine (Nephrology)
Professor of Cellular and Molecular Physiology
Director, Undergraduate Summer Research Program for Nephrology
Director, Research Fellowship
