October 22, 2024

Meet Yale clinical fellow Rebecca Kurian, MD, who chose a career in medicine to combine her love of science with the art of compassion.

Why did you decide to pursue a career in medicine?

I decided to pursue a career in medicine because I wanted to make a difference in people’s lives and loved the idea of a career that combines science with the art of compassion. I love the never-ending learning involved in medicine—there are new aspects to the field every day.

Why did you choose Yale Department of Internal Medicine for your fellowship?

I chose Yale for my fellowship because the Section of Nephrology faculty seemed supportive. It was obvious that this was a program in which I would learn everything there is to know about nephrology while being in a positive learning environment. It’s amazing to learn from leading experts in the field.

What’s a fun fact about you?

I enjoy exploring new cities by running. I also love running half marathons in new places.

What do you enjoy about living in New Haven?

My favorite thing about New Haven is its walkability. I’ve enjoyed walking around and exploring the Yale campus, which is stunning!
