Greetings to all,

This week is CUGH’s Virtual Global Health Week Oct 30-Nov 3^rd (the in-person meeting is in March). All sessions are open and free. Climate change, mental health, capacity building, and more. Register here.

Also, please join our first Global Health Night Out of the academic year: Sickle Cell Anemia & Malaria in Sub-Saharan Africa, which will take place on Wednesday, November 1^st from 6:30-8pm. The event will be held in person and dinner will be provided; the discussion will focus on three key articles which are available through the RSVP link below. Our featured faculty is Dr. Christine Sekaggya-Wiltshire, a visiting colleague from Mulago Hospital in Kampala, Uganda who is the lead physician on the Mulago Hospital Hematology Unit and is a Senior Research Scientist at the Infectious Diseases Institute at Makerere University, along with Dr. Mercy Adewale, Yale Emergency Medicine PGY-2. • Thursday Nov 9^th @ 12pm on zoom: Ebola 10 Years On - Reflections and Lessons Learned. December 2023 marks the 10-year anniversary of the emergence of Ebola in West Africa that caused a tragic epidemic with more than 10,000 deaths in Guinea, Liberia, and Sierra Leone. Senior health leaders who responded to the epidemic will share their reflections on the weaknesses in healthcare, public health, and health financing that exacerbated the Ebola crisis in their countries, as well as lessons learned that can be or have already been applied to better respond to emerging infectious disease threats, build more resilient health systems, and improve health outcomes globally. Panelists include Dr. Bernice Dahn, Former Minister of Health, Liberia; Dr. Sylla Thiam, Former Regional Director, Amref, West Africa; and David Mandu Farley Kelli-Coomber IV, Paramount Chief, Mandu Chiefdom, Sierra Leone.
