Yale-TCC Presents: "Improving Climate Resilience: CARPHA and the OECS Regional Health Project"

Our speaker is Dr. Joy St. John, Executive Director of the Caribbean Public Health Agency (CARPHA). She will describe the work of the Caribbean Public Health Agency (CARPHA) and the Organisation of Eastern Caribbean States (OECS) to improve climate resilience. The Regional Health Project is intended to strengthen the capacity of health systems to ensure continuity of services following an extreme weather event, boost national and regional disease surveillance systems, strengthen regional emergency coordinating mechanisms, and support an immediate response to select public health emergencies.

Dr. St. John, a national of Barbados, is a physician and leader with vast experience in global public health. Prior to her appointment at CARPHA, Dr. St. John held the position of Assistant Director-General at the World Health Organization (WHO), where her work included examining climate as a determinant of health.She also served as the Chief Medical Officer for Barbados, where she was responsible for the health of the country. Dr. St. John has specialized experience in policy formation, disaster preparedness, chronic disease program management, and partnership development.
