Biography
Dr. Fried completed her medical school education at Harvard and an internship and residency in Primary Care Internal Medicine at Rhode Island Hospital. She did fellowship training in geriatrics, ethics, and clinical effectiveness at Harvard Medical School. She came to the Yale section of geriatrics in 1996 as a clinician investigator, after several years as a clinician-educator at Brown Medical School. Clinical Care
Overview
Terri Fried, MD, is a geriatrician who advocates for more straightforward decision-making about treatment plans for her patients. She believes her work with older patients encompasses three pillars in medicine: clinical work, education, and research.
Much of Dr. Fried’s research focuses on improving the quality of treatment for her vulnerable older patients by pushing for more transparent communication of their preferences. She’s also interested in end-of-life planning. As chief of Geriatric Medicine, she works to create an environment in which all clinicians are supported to do their best work in caring for older persons.
Dr. Fried has received numerous awards, including the Mason F. Lord Lecture and Visiting Professor from Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine, the VISN 1 Geriatric and Extended Care Service Line Award from the Department of Veterans Affairs, and the Outstanding Scientific Achievement for Clinical Investigation Award from the American Geriatrics Society.
Dr. Fried is a Humana Foundation Professor of Medicine (Geriatrics) at Yale School of Medicine.
