Intestinal Immunity in Neurologic Disease

Emerging research is connecting changes in the gut (for example, the types of microbes living there) to changes in the brain. These links between the gut and brain may be the reasons why certain neurologic diseases develop. Yale researchers are studying immune cells in the gut and those in the brain, and we are recruiting patients to help unravel the relationships between these systems.

Study participants will undergo colonoscopy with intestinal biopsies as well as a blood draw. Study participants may have a neurologic disease (like Parkinson’s or MS), or they may be healthy. Participants may be able to contribute to the study during their regularly scheduled screening colonoscopy, or they may choose to have a colonoscopy specifically for research. Participants may also be invited to donate additional biospecimens to our Neurology Data Registry and Biorepository (HIC 2000027291). Compensation is provided.
