Achievements

Due to my interest in E-learning in medical education, I was invited by the National Kidney foundation to serve on their education committee and help develop and expand innovative methods in nephrology education to reach a wider national and international audience with the ultimate goal of increasing academic interest in nephrology. NKF education committee is a group of academic nephrologists that advise NKF on educational outreach, resource development and promotion of evidence-based practice. As a member, I am currently collaborating with the NKF to develop an E-curriculum in CRRT that utilizes online, animated and interactive teaching module. This curriculum will be completed and launched in 2021. It will be useful to nephrologists, intensivists, medicine house-staff and critical care nurses. In collaboration with the NKF, we hope to conduct a study to assess the impact of this curriculum nationally (and possibly internationally).

Kidney 360 is a peer-reviewed, open access, online only kidney journal sponsored by the American Society of Nephrology.

Organize world kidney day fair at VAMC for staff and patient education. Display posters, brochures and offer a CKD quiz as well as conduct small group workshops.

Assisting with evaluating and providing refinement recommendations for the Kidney Score's online patient education and decision aid platform as well as the accompanying clinical toolkit including care deliver, redesign, quality improvement processes and CKD continuing education materials.

Member of the Health advisory committee and COVID advisory committee to help the school formulate health care related policies for students and faculty

Involved in outreach, newsletter development and guiding school policies on improving cultural and social diversity and inclusion among students and faculty.

Mentoring several high school students regarding career in medicine and sciences.

Member of VAMC hospital special care committee that helps coordinate care between various high acuity departments such as ICU, ER, Dialysis with in VACT

Member of the CRRT( continuous renal replacement therapy) committee that helps coordinate care between ICU staff and Nephrology around providing CRRT

Provides consultative service to patients and physicians in situations of ethical issues that may arise in patient care and to ensure goals of care meet the VA standards of medical ethics.

This is a VHA Quality Improvement Project led by the National Center for Ethics in Health Care (NCEHC) that aims to improve patient understanding and physician communication of goals of care and assist in making and documenting end of life decisions in a more organized and systematic fashion. I was a member of the advisory committee that helped implement this program at WHVA, CT.

In partnership with the United Network for Organ Sharing (UNOS), a Blue Ribbon Advisory Panel of national leaders in transplant and the design of transplant education from eight medical centers and universities has created the UNOS Kidney Transplant Learning Center (KTLC), an online hub containing educational resources about transplantation and living donation. I was invited to be an external reviewer of the educational content generated for this website.
