Overview
Myron Brand, MD, is a gastroenterologist who specializes in inflammatory bowel disease (IBD), the umbrella term for two gastrointestinal conditions—ulcerative colitis and Crohn's disease. He has been caring for patients with gastrointestinal illness for more than 50 years.
Dr. Brand says his love of “science and mystery” attracted him to a career in medicine. “I love unsolved puzzles and the challenges of finding answers to difficult questions,” he says. “The emotional rewards medicine has delivered to me are incalculable. As I look around, I am proud of my contribution of helping others who were suffering from illness.”
In addition to caring for patients, Dr. Brand is a clinical professor at Yale School of Medicine who has participated in research into small molecule treatments and new biological agents. He is considered a thought leader in IBD, lectures nationally, and participates in national conferences. He is a past governor of the American College of Gastroenterology, has received recognition awards from the Crohn’s and Colitis Foundation of America, and mentored gastroenterology fellows. “I have helped train the next generation of physicians while having the opportunity to help others,” he says.
