Overview
Lauren Tobias, MD, is a pulmonary, critical care, and sleep medicine specialist.
As medical director of the Sleep Program for the Connecticut Veterans Affairs (VA) Medical Center, Dr. Tobias treats many sleep disorders, including sleepwalking and sleep apnea (in which breathing is impaired because of an obstructed airway).
Sleep disorders can result in an increased risk of diabetes, depression, heart attacks, and other health problems. Dr. Tobias is particularly interested in sleep disorders in older adults, women, and underserved populations.
A study co-authored by Dr. Tobias examined the medical problems sleep disorders cause throughout women’s lives. Pregnant women frequently experience sleep disorders, and menopausal women may find their sleep interrupted by breathing and hormonal changes.
In addition to the many articles Dr. Tobias has published in peer-reviewed journals, she also serves as a reviewer for several, including Chestand Journal of Clinical Sleep Medicine.
