Associate Professor of Psychiatry
Biography
Ellen Edens is an Associate Professor of Psychiatry at Yale School of Medicine. In 2002, Ellen received her MD from the Johns Hopkins School of Medicine and subsequently completed residency training in psychiatry at Washington University in St. Louis. In 2007, she earned a Master degree in Psychiatric Epidemiology (MPE), studying gender differences in a longitudinal sample of individuals with DSM-III alcohol dependence who were first identified in the landmark psychiatric epidemiology study, the Epidemiologic Catchment Area study (ECA). In 2009, she completed advanced training in Addiction Psychiatry at Yale School of Medicine followed by a VA-funded addiction psychiatry clinical/research fellowship. Ellen joined Yale faculty in 2011.
Ellen Edens is also the Associate Director of the Addiction Psychiatry Residency at Yale, an ACGME-accredited program, where she oversees the program’s didactic curriculum and clinical supervision. Additionally, she is Co-Director of the VA Interprofessional Advanced Fellowship in Addiction Treatment and the VA Health Professions Education Evaluation and Research Fellowship in West Haven, CT.
Clinically, Ellen serves as Lead Consultant for Substance-related and Addictive Disorders (SRAD) at the VA National Expert Consultation and Specialized Services - Mental Health Center and Co-Director of the Opioid Reassessment Clinic, a primary-care based clinic designed to assess and treatment patients with issues around opioid safety, efficacy and misuse. Her research interests include the development and dissemination of SRAD education, implementation methods to expand access to treatment for SRADs, and the interface between chronic pain and opioid use disorders.
