Biography

Carolina identifies as a cis-gendered, heterosexual, bilingual and bicultural Boricua/Puerto Rican woman. Born in the Island and raised in New Haven, she is a first-generation college student who earned her bachelor's from Southern Connecticut State University, majoring in Social Work. Carolina then earned her Master’s degree in Advance Clinical Social Work from New York University. Carolina also has a certificate in Advanced Clinical Supervision from Smith College Graduate School of Social Work. Additionally, Carolina has worked to strengthen her leadership skills through the Yale's Emerging Leaders Program at the School of Management.

Carolina is a licensed clinical social worker who has committed over 10 years to serving and supporting children and families of diverse backgrounds, including monolingual-Spanish speaking families, survivors of complex trauma, systems impacted families and underserved individuals. Carolina is deeply committed to teaching and training. She is a skilled clinician trained in several evidence-based practices that she delivers with a culturally responsive approach. Carolina is Certified as a clinician and consultant in MATCH- ADTC, a Cognitive Behavioral approach to treatment for Children with Anxiety, Depression, Trauma and Conduct Disorders. Carolina has provided supervision and has served as an Advisory Board member for the Advance Clinical Social Work Fellowship. In 2022, Carolina accepted the honor of serving as the current Director of the Advance Clinical Social Work Fellowship.

Carolina comes to the field of Social Work with a personal and professional dedication to fostering an equitable society by dismantling systemic inequities that exist specifically for historically marginalized individuals. She is driven by her understanding that affecting change for individuals cannot be contained to individual treatment but must include creation of communities that support children and adolescents. To this end, she has been active in engaging the New Haven community to support children, adolescents, and their families.

When she is not delighting in creating memories with her family and growing with her church community, she is strength training, enjoying local coffee shops, savoring New Haven Pizza and partnering with the Progreso Latino Fund in New Haven to grow philanthropy for and by the Latine community as an Advisory Board Member.
