Yale Ob/Gyn hosted a Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Retreat at the Cohen Auditorium for faculty, residents, and staff.
The retreat, led by Ob/Gyn Vice Chair of DEI Sangini Sheth, MD, MPH, had attendees participate in various exercises that allowed them to see the world through the lens of different people and experiences.
Throughout the event, four guest speakers talked about multiple aspects of DEI.
Doug McKinley, PsyD, presented “Private Logic.”
Assistant Professor of Medicine (General Medicine) Aba Black, MD, MHS, presented “Creating Accountable Teams: Microaggression and Upstander Response.”
Associate Professor of Medicine (General Medicine) and Director of DEI at the VA Shaili Gupta, MBBS, presented “Finding Your Professional Voice Against Identity-Based Bias at Work.”
Professor of Medicine (General Medicine) and Graduate Medical Education Director for Diversity, Equity and Inclusion & Associate Designated Institutional Official for YNHH and YSM Benjamin Mba, MBBS, presented “A Workshop on Intercultural Competence.”
The overall goals of the DEI retreat included:
- developing a shared language and tools related to DEI through an interactive learning experience
- increasing interdepartmental dialogue and psychological safety to foster a greater sense of inclusion and belonging
- developing increased comfort in identifying and acting on othering/exclusionary behaviors across all ranks and roles
