On Friday, September 25th, Smilow Cancer Hospital Clinical Operations and Leadership team met for a socially distanced retreat to participate in leadership development activities like an interactive workshop on communication styles and using wellness to enhance leadership. They also focused sessions on ways to create exceptional disease centers with an emphasis on the patient experience.
Hosted by Kevin Billingsley, MD, MBA, FACS, Chief Medical Officer for Yale Cancer Center and Smilow Cancer Hospital, the event featured a workshop by Benjamin Doolittle, MD, MA Div,
Associate Professor of Medicine (General Medicine) and of Pediatrics on practical ways to use the five elements of well-being to enhance leadership and a visioning exercise was led by Dr. Billingsley and Dr. Kerin Adelson on defining the Smilow care signature.
Retreats such as these have long been a staple in strategic planning and team building and have been adapted during the time of COVID to allow for these important discussions to continue.
