Mathieu Bakhoum, MD Recipient of Grant from Connecticut Lions Eye Research Foundation

November 03, 2022

Congratulations to Dr. Mathieu Bakhoum on receiving a grant from the CLERF Foundation. The grant will support his laboratory's efforts to develop non-invasive biomarkers for uveal melanoma, the most common intraocular cancer in adults.

For those of you who are not familiar, the Connecticut Lions Eye Research Foundation (CLERF) has a fundamental goal of fighting blindness. In 1954 it was voted to establish an eye research clinic; this facility would be under the auspices of the Yale University Department of Public Health and located at the Yale University School of Medicine in New Haven. On July 20th, 1956, a charter for the foundation was issued by the State of Connecticut, designating the Connecticut Lions Eye Research Foundation as a non-profit corporation. Since then, Yale Ophthalmology and Visual Science has been supported by CLERF through grants that are provided to those who predominately pave the way for innovative success in eye research.

Please join me in congratulating Dr. Bakhoum on this success, we are enthusiastic about his future endeavors in our department.
