Dr. Jennifer Foss-Feig received a NARSAD Young Investigator Award from the Brain & Behavior Research Foundation for her project "Excitatory/Inhibitory Imbalance in Autism and Early-Course Schizophrenia". Dr. Foss-Feig aims to characterize neural circuit excitatory and inhibitory imbalance in order to advance understanding of neural mechanisms underlying shared and divergent phenotypes across schizophrenia and ASD. This cross-diagnostic and multi-disciplinary clinical neuroscience study has the ultimate potential to clarify shared versus distinct neural mechanisms underlying basic cortical computations. This knowledge can guide better treatment strategies aimed at addressing unique cortical deficits in each disorder, thereby improving the quality of life for patients affected by severe neurodevelopmental disorders.
