Change Ahead

July 24, 2014
by Cayetana C. Navarro

“The pessimist complains about the wind; the optimist expects it to change; the realist adjusts the sails.”

William Arthur Ward

The web at the Yale School of Medicine is heading into a sea of change. This is the first in a series of official communications about the rollout of new and rebuilt tools provided by the Yale School of Medicine Web Group.

Some of these tools include:

  • Two new Web Group sites: Services and Support
  • A new look and feel for YSM Websites
  • An upgrade to the latest version of Tridion
  • And of course, the much anticipated new Profile System

The Web Group was formed about eight years ago. In that time, we have developed and/or introduced a suite of interworking applications to ensure every official representation of the Yale School of Medicine has a world-class web presence. The Web Group’s site is now about six years old; the current YSM web template is four years old; we are on a three-year-old version of Tridion; and the Profile System is wheezing along at eight years old. We are about due for some upgrades!

For this inaugural article, I chose Willam Arthur Ward’s quote for a very specific reason. Change, one of the few constants of the universe, is also one of the things we humans have a hard time embracing. The Web Group is about to introduce a whole lot of change, but our hope is that you will find the new and rebuilt tools better, faster, more reliable, and easier to use.

With that in mind, I plan on using this series to apprise all of our stakeholders of the following:

  • What to expect, in terms of changes to specific applications
  • Orientation and training opportunities
  • When to expect the various launches

It is my hope that you will read these articles and if you have questions or concerns, bring them to us. As much as it is our responsibility to provide you timely information, we hope all of you will also be active participants in learning and being prepared for the new tools.

Next up: What to Expect
