Petrylak, MD, Leslie Rickey, MD, MPH, Katherine L. Rotker, MD, Dinesh Singh, MD, Preston C. Sprenkle, MD, and Timothy Y. Tran, MD.
Endourology
First up was the endourology section of the program, featuring Dr. Chi as the keynote speaker and moderator of the first "bulldog debate" on how best to manage a 1.8 cm kidney stone. Dr. Tran argued for the standard PCNL and was the clear favorite, rapping nearly a three minute rebuttal. Yes, rapping [SEE RELATED LINKS].
Dr. Kellner wrapped up the section highlighting the HoLEP procedure and why he considers it a success for many patients.
FPMRS
Next, Dr. Rickey presented the keynote for the female pelvic medicine and reconstructive surgery [FPMRS] section. Division Chief Foster spoke on OAB treatment in older women, then Dr. Maher moderated the weekend's second "bulldog debate," this time between Drs. Rickey and Harmanli on prophylactic slings.
Prostate Cancer
Chair Kim led the prostate cancer section with his keynote on two active clinical trials. Drs. Sprenkle and Leapman also gave talks [on ablation and active surveillance, respectively]. Then, Dr. Karellas moderated the third "bulldog debate." Drs. Leapman and Britto argued the pros and cons of a pelvic lymph node dissection. And Dr. Kenney wrapped up the section giving a critical look at adjuvant therapy in renal cell carcinoma.
Reproductive and Sexual Medicine
The weekend's fourth section started with a "bulldog debate" on low intensity shock wave lithotripsy, moderated by Dr. Honig and debated by Drs. Rotker and Eisenberg. Dr. Eisenberg then gave a keynote on "what our sperm are trying to tell us," followed by two more debates between the three. [continued]
Bladder Cancer
The fifth and final section was on bladder cancer and featured keynote speaker Dr. Lerner, followed by a presentation from Dr. Petrylak. The CME event closed out with another "bulldog debate" involving Drs. Hesse, Lerner, and Karellas.
Dr. Kim thanked and noted the guest speakers and Yale faculty experts who "raised the bar" with their insights. Organizers are already planning Yale Urology's 2024 Bulldog Debates. Stay tuned for a save-the-date announcement.
