Research

Overview

I am interested in studying the factors that influence end-of-life decision making by ICU clinicians and the family members of critically ill patients. In conjunction with this I am interested in the emotional, religious, educational, and cognitive factors that influence how choices are made.

I also maintain a strong focus on new treatment strategies for ARDS and sepsis as well as a striving for a better understanding of the factors that underlie the pathogenesis and outcomes of critical illness

Clinical Care

Overview

Mark D. Siegel, MD, is a critical care pulmonologist who treats patients with pulmonary embolism, septic shock, acute respiratory distress syndrome, and multiple organ dysfunction syndrome (MODS).

Dr. Siegel also sees patients with asthma, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), chronic cough, and bronchiectasis.

“I enjoy caring for patients and families and helping them in moments of crisis,” he says. “I tell my patients that we will do our best to make sure they get the best possible care.”

The challenges of caring for patients with life-threatening conditions led him to specialize in pulmonology.

Dr. Siegel sees patients in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU), the pulmonary consult service at Yale New Haven Hospital, and the Winchester Center for Lung Disease.
