Biography
Dr. Agampodi has been an Adjunct Assistant Professor in the Department of Internal Medicine since 2021. Before this appointment, he served as a Visiting Research Scientist at Yale School of Medicine (2019-2021). He is also a Research Scientist at the International Vaccine Institute in Seoul, Korea.
Dr. Agampodi earned his medical degree from the University of Peradeniya, Sri Lanka, and completed his internship at Sri Jayawardanapura General Hospital, Sri Lanka, before being appointed as a primary care physician. He trained in community medicine at the Post Graduate Institute of Medicine, University of Colombo, where he received his MSc and MD in Community Medicine and became a board-certified consultant in community medicine. With an academic interest in zoonotic diseases and epidemiology, he completed a Master of Public Health at Massey University, New Zealand, focusing on biosecurity.
He was a pioneer member of the new Department of Community Medicine at Rajarata University of Sri Lanka, where he was appointed as the Head in 2012, promoted to Professor in 2015, and became the Founding Chair of the department in 2018. While at Rajarata, he served as Dean (2021-2022), Chair of the Ethics Review Committee, Director of the Maternal and Child Health Research Unit, and Lead Epidemiologist of the Tropical Disease Research Unit. Since 2010, Dr. Agampodi has been committed to developing research capacity at Rajarata through competitive international grants. He also served as a Visiting Assistant Professor at the University of California, San Diego, in 2011.
His primary academic interests are in infectious disease epidemiology, population health, and preventive medicine.
