A Midsummer Thanksgiving

August 04, 2024
by Mark David Siegel

Hi everyone,

Why put off till November what we can do today? Let’s celebrate an August Thanksgiving.

We’ve had a lovely start to the year. Twenty-eight hour calls are history, so residents are sleeping (or should be). We’ve enhanced noon conference with iPads—and virtual white boards—and our finest faculty and fellows are walking us through a range of topics from meningitis to GI bleeds to DKA to TTP. Conference rooms are packed.

Every day I hear about residents who placed IVs no one else could get, intervened in the nick of time, and consoled frightened patients. I’m so proud.

A residency year is inevitably full of ups and downs, but right now we’re soaring- learning, healing, and further strengthening our strong community.

Thank you, faculty, APDs, Chiefs, interns, residents, staff, and countless colleagues who make this residency thrive.

Enjoy your Sunday, everyone. I’m off to join my “Gold Team” in the SRC MICU.

In summer gratitude,

Mark
