Vincent Coates Professor of Neurology and Professor of Neurobiology
Director, Cellular Neuroscience, Neurodegeneration and Repair
Director, Memory Disorders Clinic
Stephen M. Strittmatter earned his undergraduate degree from Harvard College, summa cum laude, in 1980. He completed M.D. and Ph.D. training at Johns Hopkins in 1986 with mentorship from Solomon H. Snyder, M.D. He then moved to Massachusetts General Hospital for a medical internship and an Adult Neurology residency. While at Massachusetts General Hospital, he worked as a Research Fellow with Mark Fishman, M.D., exploring the molecular basis of axonal guidance. After a year as Fellow, he served...

Sarah Bhagat is a graduate student from the Interdepartmental Neuroscience Program. She is interested in the study of cellular and molecular mechanisms that regulate cortical plasticity throughout development and into adulthood. Her primary research investigates the role of Nogo Receptor 1, a receptor for myelin associated inhibitors, on behavioral and anatomical plasticity associated with fear learning and extinction. She graduated with a B.A. in Psychology from Franklin & Marshall College in...
Laura Haas is a graduate student in the Cellular and Molecula Neuroscience program. Her research interest focuses on undrstanding the cellular andmolecular mechanisms underlying neurodegenerative disorders ike Alzheimer's disease as well as on the finding of possible theraputic approches. She joined the Strittmatter lab in 2013 where her primary research investigates the roll of metabotrophic glutamate receptr 5 and cellular prion protein in Alzheimer's disease. She graduated with a B.S.in...
Neuroscience Graduate Student
Zoe Klein is a graduate student in the Interdepartmental Neuroscience Program. She is currently studying the molecular mechanisms underlying Frontotemporal Lobe Dementia and Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis. Zoe graduated with a B.A. in Spanish and Neuroscience from Barnard College of Columbia University in 2010 and joined the Strittmatter lab in 2011.
Santiago is currently a Ph.D. student in the department of Genetics. He is interested in studying the molecular mechanisms that lead to Alzheimer's disease. His primary goal is to understand the relationship between beta-amyloid/PrP-C interaction and neurodegenerative pathology.
Levi M. Smith is a graduate student from the department of Cell Biology. He is interested in the cellular and molecular mechanisms of Alzheimer's disease as well as drug discovery. His current research investigates the roles of several cell-surface proteinsin the binding of soluble amyloid beta oligomers to cells. Levi graduated with a M.S. in Pharmaceutical Sciences and a Doctor of Pharmacy from Butler University in 2013 and joined the Strittmatter lab in 2014.
