Community-based In-situ Simulation

Simulation-based methods are regularly used to train inter-professional groups of healthcare providers at the majority of academic medical centers. This technique less frequently used in regional and community hospitals. Mobile simulation is an approach that holds great promise for addressing this disparity. Our research illustrates the process of implementing a mobile simulation program by presenting three exemplar programs developed by the authors. Using these exemplars as a springboard for discussion, we have outlined key lessons learned and provide a development framework that can be used to create similar programs at other academic medical centers.

Medical simulation has evolved to the point that community dissemination of curricula developed at academic medical centers is a real, feasible option.

Like many fields that have come of age, such as personal computing, the trend toward outward mobility and portability are inevitable, and we encourage programs to consider the possible value that this technique may offer to their community.
