Biography

Dr. Melinda Fiedor Hamilton will serve as the site investigator at University of Pittsburgh. She is the director for the Pediatric Simulation Center of Children’s Hospital of Pittsburgh of UPMC and an associate director at the Peter M. Winter Institute for Simulation, Education, and Research (WISER) in Pittsburgh. Dr. Hamilton was T32 National Institute of Health grant recipient through the Safar Center for Resuscitation Research and received a master’s degree in medical education from the University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine. She was a member of the AHA education subcommittee for 8 years and is now a member of the AHA pediatric subcommittee and has helped to author resuscitation guidelines and Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) materials. Dr. Hamilton was the chief author for the 2005 AHA/Laerdal SimbabyTM simulation scenario package, including content, simulation scenarios, and debriefing guides. Her simulation research includes being the site PI for a Department of Defense/ State of Hawaii. This helped to establish neonatal and pediatric extracorporeal membranous oxygenation (ECMO) to the Hawaiian Islands. Dr. Hamilton was chief advisor for ECMO simulation education on this project. She is a member of the Society for Critical Care Medicine and the Society for Simulation in Healthcare. On a local level, Dr. Hamilton is an Assistant professor of Critical Care Medicine and Pediatrics, the director of the crisis team and the educational coordinator for the Telemedicine Steering Committee.
