Deputy Dean, YSM Finance & Administration
Biography
Arnim Dontes, MBA, is deputy dean for Finance & Administration at Yale School of Medicine (YSM). He joined YSM in July 2021, leading the medical school’s financial, budgetary, human resources, capital planning, information technology, and administrative functions. In his role, Mr. Dontes is responsible for the management and oversight of YSM’s $3 billion operating budget to ensure operational excellence and continuous improvement across YSM administration. He collaborates directly with the dean and deputy deans of the medical school, and the administrative and academic leadership teams within Yale University and the Yale New Haven Health System in setting strategic priorities and directing resources to support YSM’s educational, research, and clinical missions.
Prior to YSM, Mr. Dontes served as executive vice president for Business Affairs at University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center (UTSW) from 2011 to 2021. While there, he directed more than 15 business and service-related departments, including accounting, budget & resource planning, contracts management, facilities management, financial affairs, auxiliary services, human resources, information technology, safety and business continuity, sponsored programs administration, supply chain management, and the university's police department.
For more than 20 years, Mr. Dontes also held leadership positions, including vice dean for administration, at the University of Illinois College of Medicine, where he was responsible for the financial and operational teams within the school's 30 basic science and clinical departments.
He served as the national chair elect, chair, and immediate past chair for the Association of American Medical College’s Group on Business Affairs from 2011 through 2014.
Mr. Dontes earned his bachelor's degree from the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign and holds an MBA from the University of Illinois Chicago.
