Please join us in welcoming our newest faculty member, William Nealon, MD to the Yale School of Medicine Department of Surgery. Dr. Nealon joined the Section of Surgical Oncology and Clinical Chief and Executive Director of Perioperative Services at Yale-New Haven Hospital on April 1, 2015.

In this newly developed role, Dr. Nealon will provide clinical leadership for perioperative operations at the York Street and Saint Raphael campuses and Temple Surgical Center. Dr. Nealon recently moved from Vanderbilt University Medical Center, where he was the chairman of the Department of Surgery and associate surgeon-in-chief. Dr. Nealon has extensive experience in process, operations, supply chain concepts and capacity management related to perioperative services. He has an international reputation as an expert in pancreatic surgery.

Dr. Nealon’s extensive experience in all aspects of surgery has emphasis in the surgical management of pancreatic and biliary diseases and therapeutic ERCP. His research interests include evaluating outcomes of operative and non-operative measures used to treat patients with complications of acute and chronic pancreatitis. He is credited with establishing the role played by pancreatic ductal anatomy on the natural course and outcomes in pancreatitis, thus facilitating the choice of operative or non-operative modalities as therapies. He has also participated in studies using large database evaluations to determine outcomes in pancreatic cancer and cystic neoplasms of the pancreas.
