Assistant Professor of Psychiatry

Biography

I am a licensed Clinical Psychologist at the VA Connecticut Healthcare System (VACHS) in West Haven and an Assistant Professor of Psychiatry at the Yale School of Medicine. I completed my graduate work at the University of Arkansas in 2021, and my predoctoral internship and postdoctoral fellowship at the VACHS. My research program focuses on developing and evaluating digital health interventions for addictive disorders, as well as identifying risk factors that exacerbate their course or treatment. My clinical work utilizes evidence-based treatments, such as cognitive behavioral therapy, motivational enhancement, and written exposure therapy, for treating substance use disorders and commonly co-occurring conditions like PTSD and chronic pain. I am the recipient of a 5-year VA Rehabilitation R&D Career Development Award to develop a smartphone-based mobile application to support Veterans receiving medication treatment for opioid use disorder (Project Award ID: 1IK2RX005015-01A1).

Overview

Dr. Noah R. Wolkowicz is a licensed Psychologist at the VA Connecticut Healthcare System (VACHS) in West Haven and an Assistant Professor of Psychiatry at the Yale School of Medicine. He completed his doctoral internship at the VACHS Addiction Track and his PhD in Clinical Psychology at the University of Arkansas. His research program focuses on developing and evaluating digital health interventions for addictive disorders, as well as identifying risk factors that exacerbate their course or treatment. In pursuit of this research program, Dr. Wolkowicz has developed familiarity with a wide range of methodologies to allow quantitative assessment of clinical findings, as well as exploring and understanding patient needs and population-level trends. For example, his publish work has employed the use of multilevel modeling for intensive longitudinal designs, national cohort datasets (such as through the VHA’s Corporate Data Warehouse), and rapid qualitative methods. In 2024, he was the recipient of a 5-year VA Rehabilitation R&D Career Development Award to develop a smartphone-based mobile application to support Veterans receiving medication treatment for opioid use disorder (Award ID: 1IK2RX005015-01A1).
