Overview
Anne Marie Boustani, MD, is a nuclear radiologist. She interprets general nuclear medicine and oncologic imaging studies, and treats cancer patients. She is trained to help treat thyroid malignancies and conditions, neuroendocrine tumors, and metastatic prostate cancer.
“I love my job because I diagnose patients using specific oncologic imaging techniques that then can lead to targeted treatments,” Dr. Boustani says. As a radiologist, she interprets imaging studies in order to provide clinicians with the best information to help treat patients successfully. As a nuclear radiologist, she has the ability to combine diagnostic and therapeutic procedures. By using targets to image a particular cancer, nuclear medicine physicians can treat cancer selectively by using those same targets, thereby minimizing side effects, she says.
“I like having patient contact,” Dr. Boustani says. “I listen to their concerns and let them know that they are being heard. Sometimes taking the time to listen provides more support and generates more goodwill than giving advice.” Dr. Boustani’s research interests include determining how to best use nuclear medicine techniques to diagnose and treat neuroendocrine tumors, and using novel diagnostic imaging agents to improve cancer diagnosis and ultimately improve treatment.
