- Tuesday, September 15 - "Understanding My Laboratory Test Results: What My Blood Says About Me," Brian Smith, MD, chief of laboratory medicine at YNHH, will provide information on various blood tests such as anemia, the new EAG for diabetes, PSA for prostate and other cancer screenings, and PT and INR for blood thinning tests, as well as why some tests take longer than others.
- Tuesday, October 13 - "My Stomach Hurts: Could it be Acid Reflux/GERD?," Anish Sheth, MD, medical director of the gastrointestinal motility program at YNHH, will offer an informative discussion on the importance of diagnosing and treating gastroesophageal reflux, complications of untreated reflux such as esophageal stricture and Barrett's esophagus. Dr. Sheth will also focus on new diagnostic and therapeutic approaches to managing GERD and its complications.
- Tuesday, October 20 - "Sex Ed for Parents: Sexting and Facebook 101," Alison Moriarty Daley, MSN, APRN, pediatric nurse practitioner, Yale School of Nursing, will address today's youth culture, as well as suggesting tools for parents to converse with their children about sex.
- Tuesday, November 10 - "Why do Non-Smokers get Cancer," Daniel Boffa, MD, attending thoracic surgeon at YNHH and Yale Thoracic Oncology Program, will discuss risk factors as well as preventive steps to minimize those risks and the role smoking plays in lung cancer.
- Tuesday, November 17 -"Get the Skinny on Fats: Cholesterol and My Heart," Ellen Liskov, MPH, registered dietitian, certified diabetes educator and outpatient nutrition specialist, YNHSMC, will talk about contemporary health issues including, trans fats, carbohydrates, lipid profiles and nutritional supplements.
