Welcome Dr. Wenjuan Zhou, Visiting International Faculty from Central South University

Dr. Wenjuan Zhou, an associate professor with a focus on global health and infectious diseases from Central South University of China, will be spending a year at the Yale School of Public Health as an international faculty fellow in the Epidemiology of Microbial Diseases department. During her time here, she hopes to learn from Yale's advanced research experience in global health, study from the global health curriculum, and participate in global health research under the mentorship of Dr. Kaveh Khoshnood, Associate Professor of Epidemiology (Microbial Diseases).

Dr. Zhou’s expertise is rooted in a rich academic and professional journey. After earning her bachelor’s degree at Central South University School of Nursing, she pursued her doctorate, during which she participated in a joint doctoral training program at the School of Nursing. Her graduate research focused on critical areas of women’s health, including the epidemiology of HPV among Chinese women and cervical cancer survivorship. Following her doctoral studies, she became a Postdoctoral Fellow at Central South University’s School of Basic Medicine and a fellow in the Afya Bora Global Health Leadership Fellowship.

In 2017, Dr. Zhou spent a year training in Kenya, Tanzania, and Botswana with funding from the China Medical Board, assessing the risk of malaria among Chinese construction workers in several countries in Africa,. These findings have since been reported and published in BMC Public Health and Malaria Journal.

Her visit is part of a longstanding collaboration between Yale University and Central South University of China, designed to foster academic exchange and joint research initiatives. This partnership enables students from both institutions to gain deeper insights into their respective healthcare systems, engage in residency training, and contribute to research ethics projects. Dr. Zhou’s fellowship at Yale will not only advance her own research but also strengthen the ties between these two leading institutions.
