Faculty in the Department of Biomedical Informatics & Data Science received new grants and contracts in support of real-world evidence research and clinical data science.
Grants Awarded to the Department of Biomedical Informatics & Data Science (Spring 2026)
Hua Xu, PhD, Robert T. McCluskey Professor, received a grant from Patient-Centered Outcomes Research Institute (PCORI).
A Federated Trial Emulation Framework for Integrating Evidence from Clinical Research Networks ($210,000; November 2025–October 2028), with Yale as the primary place of performance. The project aims to develop a federated trial emulation framework to synthesize evidence across large clinical data research networks and identify drug repositioning signals for Alzheimer's disease and related dementias (AD/ADRD).
Vipina Keloth, PhD, an associate research scientist, received two contracts from Ividence, Inc.
Real-World Effectiveness of RSV Vaccines in Adults Using Epic Cosmos Data ($160,000; 1 year) — This study will estimate RSV vaccine effectiveness against a range of outcomes — including acute respiratory infection, hospitalization, and extra-pulmonary events such as cardiovascular disease and functional decline — using Epic Cosmos data, with analyses across multiple vaccine brands and high-risk subgroups.
A Target Trial Emulation Study of GLP-1 Receptor Agonists in Adults with Obesity Using Cosmos Database ($200,000; 1 year) — This project will characterize patient cohorts initiating GLP-1 receptor agonists, describe treatment patterns, and estimate clinical outcomes and safety across multiple disease indications using target trial emulation methods.
