“It’s Okay to Struggle. Please Talk”: A Candid Conversation with Jonny Benjamin, MBE, British Mental Health Campaigner, Author, and Vlogger

October 18, 2018

Announcing a presentation by the Poynter Fellowship and the Yale Department of Psychiatry:

Ten years ago, Jonny Benjamin attempted to take his own life by jumping off Waterloo Bridge, before a complete stranger, Neil Laybourn, talked him down and ultimately saved his life, inspiring the award-winning documentary Stranger on a Bridge. Moderated by Philip Corlett, Associate Professor of Psychiatry, who has a long-standing interest in the experiences and mechanisms of serious mental illness.

The conversation among Jonny, Neil and Phil is about how we can bring to bear the latest science on the problems faced by people with serious mental illness, in an effort to render their experiences more understandable and their suffering more manageable.

JOIN US: Friday, October 26. 12:00-1:00 p.m. Yale Child Study Center, Cohen Auditorium, 230 S Frontage Rd, New Haven. RSVP.

This event is open to the public and is generously co-sponsored by: Yale New Haven Hospital Behavioral Health & Emergency Services, Yale Program for Recovery and Community Health (PRCH), Connecticut Mental Health Center Foundation (CMHC), Department of Psychiatry, Yale School of Medicine and Yale Health
