Special Education Teacher Position Open at Cedarhurst School

Cedarhurst School is a private therapeutic junior and senior high school in Hamden, CT, which has been operated by the Yale Department of Psychiatry for over 60 years. It provides structured special education and counseling services to youth with behavioral health needs. A staff of 26 serves an average of 75 students. The school is highly regarded for the expertise of its staff, the quality of its services, and its location in a beautiful historic home. Staff satisfaction and retention in this unique school are extremely high.

With upcoming retirements, Cedarhurst has an opening for a special education teacher beginning this August 2024, with two additional openings anticipated in August of 2025. The current opening is for a teacher with certification in comprehensive special education and/or a 7-12 content area certification, specifically English, math, any of the sciences, or social studies. What is Cedarhurst School?

Our programs integrate education and therapeutic interventions to promote the emotional and social growth necessary to transition back to the home school district, graduate from high school, attend college or obtain gainful employment and become productive, caring members of the community.

Academics at Cedarhurst

Students at Cedarhurst attend small classes (typically up to 8 students) taught by highly experienced teachers. Academic and emotional support is tiered based on student need.

The Passage Program at Cedarhurst School

The Passage Program is a highly individualized transition program that provides functional living, vocational skill development for students who require additional support in order to successfully transition to independence. We have a strong emphasis on preparation for post-secondary education.

School Engagement Program for the School Avoidant Student

Cedarhurst offers a School Engagement Program for students who are school avoidant, refuse to attend, or who for any reason have been away from school for a period of time.
