Mineral Metabolism Lab

The Yale Mineral Metabolism Laboratory is a division of the Yale Bone Center in the Yale School of Medicine’s Endocrine Section. The Laboratory supports two services, a Clinical Service and a Research Service. Dr. Karl Insogna is the Director of the Laboratory and Ms. Anna Maria Santoro is the Laboratory Manager who oversees both services. Ms. Codruta Todeasa is a Research Associate who supports both services.

The Clinical Service supports the measurements of total 25-hydroxyvitamin D and 1,25-dihydroxyvitamin D for clinicians in the YNHHS network. This Service is accredited by the College of American Pathology (CAP) and CLIA-certified by the Connecticut Department of Health to perform laboratory testing for diagnostic purposes. The Service follows strict Best Laboratory Practice guidelines, as well as University, State, Federal and CAP protocols for quality assurance, documentation of proficiency, methods review and improvement, and patient confidentiality.

The Research Service of the Mineral Metabolism Laboratory was founded in 2023 and provides analytical support for investigators throughout the Medical School who are doing clinical research. The Research Service’s current Test Menu includes over 40 analytes using three methodologies: radioimmunoassays (RIA), chemiluminescence, and enzyme-linked immunosorbent assays (ELISA). Economy of scale and long experience with these methods allow the Research Service to help new investigators who require novel analytes to be measured for their clinical studies. If you do not see an analyte listed on our Test Menu, please reach out to us! If you are in the process of writing a grant application, we can provide you with a Letter of Support for the analytes we measure.

We are always happy to meet with you to discuss how our Laboratory can be of assistance to you. Please fill out the USP order form and include it with your samples when using our service.
