Utilizing Metabolism to Discover Novel Treatments for Thyroid Cancer

Dr. Bikas is finishing up an advanced 1-year fellowship in endocrine neoplasia after completing his endocrine training at the Brigham and Women’s Hospital. He received his MD at the University of Athen’s School of Health Services in Greece. He came to the US to do research in thyroid cancer with Ken Burman and Vasyl Vasko at MedStar Washington Hospital Center in Washington DC, followed by residency in internal medicine at Georgetown University Hospital in DC. He was chosen to be a chief resident at Georgetown before doing his endocrine fellowship. He has a commitment to clinical care and translational research in thyroid cancer. His current interests involve defining new genetic predictors of risk for Ras+ thyroid cancer, trials of RAI and molecular targeted therapies in “Intermediate risk” cancers as well as using metabolomics to define new predictors of thyroid cancer behavior.

Thanos is considering a position with our Section starting next July. Everyone who has spoken with him has been enthusiastic about his potential to build a clinical/translational research program in thyroid cancer together with our existing awesome practitioners, with Smilow Hospital and with the Endocrine Surgery Section. So, please make every effort to attend this week’s EGR – and please consider coming to the talk physically. We would like to show him how enthusiastic our Section is.

Grand rounds is presented in hybrid format, with a live presentation in Boyer and zoom access via https://yale.zoom.us/j/94935976030
