Daniel HoSang Led Seminar for New Haven Public Schools Teachers

1 Minute Read

Daniel HoSang, Professor of American Studies, served as a seminar leader for the 2025 program of the Yale-New Haven Teachers Institute. Established in 1978, the Teachers Institute offers seminars led by Yale faculty for K-12 teachers in New Haven Public Schools.

HoSang’s Institute seminar, “History, Science, and Racism: The Long Shadow of Eugenics,” explored the history of science and racism and how they have combined to shape the world we live in. The seminar ran from February to the beginning of July and each Fellow completed the seminar by creating a curriculum unit to teach in their New Haven classroom.

HoSang, who has led three Institute seminars, described his experience: “My first seminar exceeded my high expectations in every way; I would call it transformative. It gave me new questions to explore in my own teaching, much more immediate feedback about what's relevant, what resonates, what matters to other teachers. I can't say how invaluable it's been, how nourishing it's been, and how important it's been to my own development as a faculty member.”
