Overview

Dina Ferdman, MD, is a pediatric cardiologist who cares for children (newborns through adolescents) who have congenital heart disease, a problem with the structure of the heart and one of the most common birth defects. She also screens children with such cardiac concerns such as heart murmurs, chest pain, and palpitations. Based in Fairfield County, Dr. Ferdman provides preventive and follow-up care close to home for many patients who travel to New Haven for surgical care.

Dr. Ferdman also has background in fetal cardiology, and cares for pregnant women whose unborn babies are suspected to have a heart defect, or who have been diagnosed with one already. She performs and interprets fetal echocardiograms (ultrasound performed during pregnancy to evaluate the heart of an unborn baby). She counsels pregnant women and guides them through their baby’s diagnosis.

“I meet with new families, especially at the beginning of their journey in having a child with congenital heart disease,” says Dr. Ferdman. “We will review the heart anatomy, and the potential effects on the child's life.”

Dr. Ferdman takes care of her patients throughout their childhood. “It is an honor to be part of someone's life from the very beginning, and watch them grow,” she says. “I love witnessing the resilience of my patients from the time they are cared for in the intensive care unit to when they are back to running around my office.”

Dr. Ferdman is an assistant professor of clinical pediatrics at Yale School of Medicine.
